Modernizing high-volume document processing

A rebuilt print-processing application that reduced the reported time to process 1,000 files from five hours to one minute.

  • C#
  • .NET Framework
  • SQL Server

Problem

An existing print-shop application built with VB.NET, SQL Server and WCF took too long to process large file batches, which slowed downstream operations.

My contribution

I rebuilt the print-shop application using C#, .NET Framework and SQL Server. The work focused on replacing the earlier implementation while preserving the operational goal of processing high-volume print workloads more efficiently.

Technical decisions

Moving from VB.NET and WCF to C# and .NET Framework let the team modernize the processing path without inventing a separate product surface. SQL Server remained the data store while the application layer was rewritten for clearer ownership of the batch workflow.

Outcome

The résumé-reported result for the rebuilt application was that processing 1,000 files fell from five hours to one minute. That figure reflects the measured workload described in the source résumé rather than a live service-level guarantee.
