Enterprise search at document scale

An enterprise search experience over large document collections that moved read traffic away from SQL Server.

Problem

Finding relevant documents across hundreds of thousands of files and millions of database records put pressure on SQL Server and made the search experience harder to use as the collection grew.

My contribution

I built enterprise search using Elasticsearch over 300,000+ documents and millions of database records. I owned the relevant application design, development and performance work needed to improve how people searched and how the system handled read load.

Technical decisions

Elasticsearch was introduced as the search index so document discovery no longer depended on SQL Server for every read-heavy query. The application layer coordinated search results with the broader product experience while keeping ownership of indexing and query behavior within the delivery team.

Outcome

Search became easier to navigate across large document collections and read traffic was offloaded from SQL Server, reducing database load for search-oriented use.
